Nutrition

Dietetics is the basis for healing. Every healing attempt should take into account the patient’s diet. If, for any reason, the healer does not take care to correct his patient’s diet, then the results will be poor.
This seminar is based on the instinctive relationship of man with food. It revives memories that modern reasoning tends to repress, because of its biochemical analysis (proteins, trace elements, carbohydrates, etc.). Foods are discussed according to their energetics, as this is defined in the ancient Greek literature (Hippocrates, Galen, Agapios) and the Chinese and international literature. This lesson is for everyone. It is for healers who want to enrich their knowledge with this most important tool, as well as for people who just wish to ameliorate their dietetic behavior.

Curriculum

  • Taste, thermic effect and movement of food within the human body
  • Foods and 4 seasons
  • Fasting
  • Dietetics for long life, therapeutic diets
  • Categories of food – analysis (spices, fruits, nuts, vegetables, roots, cereals, pulses, meat, seafood, etc.)

  • Every meeting includes cooking and eating

ACQUAINTANCE WITH PLANTS AND THEIR NATURAL METHODS OF CULTIVATION

Life on planet earth is supported by plants. These silent friends of us, remain, for the most, the “great stranger”. Maybe this is the reason that they have been so abused by humanity, along with the environment!

Whoever is interested in the quality of plant foods or remedies, must hark at this silent world.

Organic farming opts for gentle, natural methods of nourishing and protecting the plants. These methods come from tradition and science.

Biodynamic farming approaches more the ancient civilizations and uses the energetic keys of ancient Greek philosophy, as well as the universal influences (from the moon, the planets and the constellations).

With Homeodynamics, which is a development of Biodynamic farming, and contains elements of homeopathy, we can activate specific functions. We can also counter some meteorological problems, like the extreme climatic phenomena (hoarfrost, sweltering heat, water famine) or pollution (chemical or electromagnetic).

Harmonizing the system plant-soil-universe, we enhance the quality of lives and of the plants. Thus, we can have access to foods and remedies that support humans in all dimensions: physical, emotional and spiritual.

This seminar is recommended for all those who are interested in plants, in farming and in the way plants are related to the human health.

  • Phytoprotection. Plant health with natural, organic and energetic methods

Analysis of Hippocrates’ works and colligation with TCM

Hippocrates is the first healer-doctor who records and discloses the archives of Asclepiads. Through this disclosure, the ancient Greek medical art ceases to be a privilege of the priesthood, and is accessible to all. The later medical systems of the Western world are developed on this basis.

The current western medicine is based on Hippocrates’ works, even if some may deny this fact. The analysis of his works will remind us this ancient knowledge. Also, the common elements between Ancient Greek and traditional Chinese medicine will be analyzed.

The analysis is based on Pournaropoulos’ translations (Martinos Publications – Hippocrates’ Collected Works – 6 volumes).

Curriculum

This year, the following works will be analyzed.

  • "On Diet", Book 3
  • "On Dreams"

Training in herb collecting (theory & practice)

Dealing with herb collecting is a matter of great importance for the therapist who uses herbs as a therapeutic tool. During the procedure of collecting herds there is existential knowledge, which can surpass the theoretical scholarship.

In ACADEMY OF ANCIENT GREEK & TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE, being aware of this truth, we seek around Greek province people who practice herb collecting. During such an endeavor, we came across Penelope Sarri, who is a habitant of North Evvoia and practices herb collecting.

Penelope Sarri induces us into the mystic world of healing herbs through the procedure of cultivating and collecting them. At the same time she teaches us to manufacture our own medicinal (oils, tinctures, syrups, flower tinctures, ointments, and creams).

The training circle consists of 4 seminars (one weekend each). The first is theoretical and takes place in Athens, whereas the rest will take place at Penelope’s farm in the village Achladi of North Evvoia (near Agia Anna, one hour and a half away from Chalkida, or one hour away from Agiokampos for those coming from the North) and they will combine a tour around the farm and the woods, identification and collecting of herbs and theory and practice on treating herbs and manufacturing tincturing products).

TRADITIONAL THAI MASSAGE

Thai Massage is an ancient art of the Far East. It is considered sacred, and it is still practiced in many temples in Thailand. Founder of this art is considered a historical figure called Jivaka who, according to traditional, was Buddha’s doctor. Thai Massage is part of the Traditional Thai Medicine, which is an independent healing system.

Thai massage is performed on the floor. The receiver should wear light clothing. The masseur uses his thumbs, hands, elbows, knees and feet in order to apply the techniques. Thai massage contains stretches that balance the muscular system (it restores the relationship of protagonist-antagonist muscles). Many of these stretches bear similarities with yogic asanas – thus Thai Massage is called “yoga of the lazy” by many! It is ideal for the treatment of myoskeletical problems and phychosomatic disorders (e.g. IBS, asthma, primary dysmenorrhea, etc.) Also, it contains massage techniques and work on the thai energy lines (sip sen). This work (called jap sen) purifies and balances the subtle electrochemical system of the human body – and this is the reason it is considered sacred.

Thai massage contains warm herbal packs (all the herbs can be found in Greece), that bring relief from muscular tension; flush toxins out of the body and induce deep relaxation.

AYURVEDIC MASSAGE

Ayurveda is the healing method of the ancient Vedic civilization, and is still in use in modern India. Ayurveda considers human beings through a holistic approach, taking care of body, mind and spirit.

Each human being has a unique constitution, which is defined by the balance of the three vital energies of the body (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). Health or disease is connected to the balance or imbalance of these humours Ayurveda uses various healing tools in order to achieve the balancing of the 3 vital energies. One of the most important tools is massage. Ayurvedic massage is one of the most ancient and natural healing methods. It is applied through the whole body and it usually includes the use of special oils and herbs. There is a series of massage techniques that vary in intensity and depth.  This massage, if applied properly, has the capacity to heal all levels of human existence.

On the physical level, the regular application of Ayurvedic massage melts away muscular tension, is beneficial for the blood circulation, relieves stress and anxiety, promotes lymphatic drainage and boosts the immune system, and also detoxifies the whole body.
